First Step Preschool Child's Drawing

Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to create a positive, challenging learning environment that enables children to develop their abilities and interests socially, emotionally and academically.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is based on the humanistic approach in dealing with the child's physical, emotional, social and intellectual growth.  We do this through a developmentally appropriate program.  We believe that children develop and learn best through creative play.  Young children are active learners who learn through hands-on experiences of their own choosing.  They benefit from supportive interactions with teachers who provide them with stimulating materials and ample time to explore their environment and to interact with their peers.

The greatest learning achievement for a child is success.  In making learning a life long joy, our goals are to develop confidence, enthusiasm and a genuine enjoyment in the total learning process.  Each child has a beautiful potential to love, laugh and learn.

Marc and Virginia Boffardi are proud to be the owners of First Step and to play such a large role in caring for so many children in New Fairfield and neighboring towns.

Working and living in New Fairfield gives them a strong sense of community that they share with the families they work with.  They have established strong ties with many local businesses working to keep the New Fairfield economy strong.

In 2012, the opportunity to take over the business of First Step Pre-School presented itself when the previous owner was ready to retire.  Virginia started teaching in the 3's room at First Step shortly thereafter.  Marc and Virginia bought the business and took over on November 1, 2013.

Marc and Virginia have lived in New Fairfield since 2000 and have one daughter who began attending First Step when she was 2 years old.

Marc is Vice President, Principal Systems Engineer for a software services company in Norwalk, CT with a strong background in software engineering, finance and business and has been employed by this company since 1997.  Virginia has been in the Early Childhood field since 1999 when she started working for the Astor Head Start program in Dutchess County, New York.

Virginia runs the day-to-day operations of First Step and is the Director.  Marc handles the business and financial aspects of First Step and both co-own the business equally.
